Israelis, Clowns and Midgets in Gaza

As if massive destruction in Gaza, collective punishment, starvation, imprisonment, and constant Israeli harassment aren’t enough. A Palestinian charity (that shall remain nameless) which has a long track record of working with the children in Gaza, is holding various events and entertainment programs to alleviate their suffering and to allow them a means to vent out some of their frustration. According to “Save the Children,” roughly two-thirds of Palestinian children do not have safe areas for entertainment, socializing and sports. All nice and dandy until you look at those pictures and wonder: “Where the hell is the entertainment?” I personally fear clowns and some people fear midgets, but in Gaza they combine the worst of both worlds. Putting a midget in a clown costume and presenting him fun? Do I need to talk about the makeup? It’s hideous! The little kid in the picture looks terrified leaning on traumatized!

It’s actually funny to find out that this event was funded by charities from Canada--the butt of every joke in the States and Oman; the butt of most jokes in the Arab world. It takes a clown and a “little person” to ruin an otherwise fun day of events for the children in Gaza. Thanks to botched clowns, the Israelis are not the only ones spreading fear among Palestinian children.
