Scary movies are awesome! The best thing about scary movies is that the great majority of them are similar! I am not a person who likes to be scared; in fact growing up, my older brother used to lock me in with him and make me watch crazy Italian slasher movies, something that still haunts me to this day! the reason I like the concept of scary movies is not too obvious. They Remind me of the horrible conditions going back home, here is how:
-Phones in scary movies rarely work, the same goes for phones in the Palestinian territories.
-To add dramatic effects, power goes off for no reason, and sometimes there is no electricity, Gaza's power supplies are hit and miss.
-Scary movies usually take place in locked places, where you can run, but you cannot hide. Palestinians are locked in open air prison with all the roadblocks, and insane borders
-Like in all scary movies, No one can help you, you are on your own, you need to face off with the bad guy and handle him or her. Same goes for Palestinians, they are on their own, at least how we feel.
-If you try to complain or ask for help, like in scary movies your friends, family or the police, you think you are crazy and discount your "delusions" This true also for Palestinians, many Arabs and friends, they "love us" but overlook what we tell them because we are "too attached" or too emotional.
-In scary movies, the bad guy only wins if they group stands divided. Like, the bad guy will target individuals when they are on their own. Palestinians are strong when they are united, unfortunately this is not the case in the past year and things continue to get worse.
-Horror movies do better in the box office during Halloween, where everyone in America goes to watch the horror. Most people hear about horrors in Palestine once a year. In both cases, people go home and nothing changes.
-If there is an outbreak or a virus going around, you cannot find a hospital near by and if you could, they won't be able to help you because it is too late! I feel that I have been there already.
-Any good horror movie, features a kid that gives you the creeps, there are both armed Israeli and Palestinian kids with weapons that gives me the creeps!
-Some scary movies are all about haunted houses where people die in such houses. The great majority of Palestinian killed in the conflict, are killed near their place of residence. Bonus, many Palestinian refugees left their houses behind, only to be hunted by strangers to the land.
-In any good scary movie, you always know that people are not what they seem, looks are surly deceiving. In Palestine, your cool friends might be members of a "group" or a "band" that want to take over the world.
-There are countless horror movies that feature a conspiracy that is too sophisticated and too deliberate to be taken seriously. It is safe to say that either Palestinians love conspiracies or that magically conspiracies are attracted to the Palestinians.
-Someone somewhere will wake up and realize it is a nightmare! Palestinians pray to that day!
