Those Are Not These

Bear with me for a second,

In a protest last week, angry Tibetans protesting the Chinese influence burn a mosque.
Two months ago, upset with the U.S. position on Kosovo; the Serbs, attack and burn the US embassy.
Angry mobs in India attack and burn mosques in India.
Couples of years ago, the Taliban demolish two Buddha statuses in Afghanistan.

All of these are sad and unfortunate events that does not further the debate and only make matters worse.

However, I am baffled by how little attention some stories get and much attention is given to other similar incidents.

It was crazy Serbs who burned an American embassy. Now if these guys were Muslims "like the ones attacked the Danish embassy in light of the cartoons shenanigan" all your talking heads will point fingers and say "Islamo-facists" are doing this evil work. Not once did I hear someone say those Christian Serbs burned the American embassy, or am I wrong?

Now had it been a Muslim attacked a place of worship (I am sure it has happened) it would be as of all Muslims are approving this shameful act.

My point is that burning and attacking safe places is evil at all times and should be inexcusable. However, it seems to me that Muslims get a bad rep for any wrongful act, and it is much easier to blame a Muslim than to blame others for committing the same offense. In the same way that a Mormons cannot escape the polygamy accusations, a Muslim will always be branded as hostile until he/she proves otherwise.

I have always said that they are stupid people out there, many of whom subscribe to my faith, but I truly believe that when one group is targeted, we all are diminished.

The quote that comes to my mind is when Stephan Hawking said "The enemy of knowledge is not ignorance... it is the illusion of knowledge". The illusion of knowledge is what drives people to assume every Muslim is a terrorist and that Mormons practice polygamy. The points given in the information on the Middle East that you posted earlier off Digg demonstrated how little many know and how much of that is misinformation.

Also, you talked about how it is easier to point the finger at Muslims. Partly this is because of how the media portrays Muslims in general. This quote from Occupation 101 (very good documentary) also brings up a good point when it says "Any violence by a large population is not because this people is more violent than any other. It's a sign--it's a signal that something is wrong in the treatment of this population."
There is a lot of hostility that comes out of the Middle East because of the current treatment of the people.
