Pomegranate Juice Makes Me Sick

Pomegranate Juice is marketed here as the healthiest juice in the world, it might be true. But that was not true two days ago.

My friend Meissa and I got a bottle each of Pomegranate Juice from Trader's Joe out in Maryland...you know their store brand the one you pay 3 dollars for. I actually wanted to grab their mango smoothies instead, but then I said why not for the pomegranate beverage as we both were really thirsty.

I guzzle my bottle, and so does he....right before I finished mine....I feel sick, like I wanted to throw up, and felt worse as I started feeling dizzy, the kind you feel in motion sickness. I grabbed a plastic bag and put it near me just in case.

Meissa was feeling fine and then 15 minutes later, he started feeling the same pain in his stomach and rushed home to go take care of business. We figured this batch of pomegranate must have been contaminated or something.

I had shared a sip with Roa and she did not feel too well afterwards. So there you go the irony of this of course is obvious.

First of all you don't drink the pomegranate juice quickly when you are thirsty. Pomegranate is antioxidants has vitamin A-C-E-B-K, potassium and acid too. It will make u sick and poop too when you are thirsty and drink it like drinking water quickly. Pomegranate is my favorite juice.

I was wondering why my stomach felt so much like it was churning. I thought I was coming down with something, but come to think if it I just started drinking pomegranate juice via smoothies. I've had one everyday for 4 days and my stomach has felt awful since day 2. I'm glad to know what most likely was causing this though.

After several days of taking pomegranate juice 100% I felt dizzy, severely. My wife stop using it before me after several days she felt dizzy but I was just laughing. It is contaminated, and all of it. Mine was made by "FULL CIRCLE"

I think maybe it's better to have in small quantities and drunken slowly because it can cause gastric problems in some people, and some people may be allergic.

Hi,
At my parent's we buy pomegranates and make our own juice by squeezing it. Everytime that I drink more than 1 glass of juice (more than 2 pomes) we feel nauseous. One day I had 3 glasses, I felt really sick untill the next day so decided to look it up. I came to a conclusion that it might be caused by either one of the following or maybe both:

- I found an article online that says pomegranate can act like an insulin by bring your blood sugar down (to be confirmed).
- Pesticides used to grow the fruit. I had a friend of mine who worked a lot on farms and one day was exposed to pesticides and got sick for 3 days (vomiting), she went to see a doctor and told her it was pesticide poisoning. Where I'm from (Algeria) the use of pesticides are without control. So that might be the case for the many times I got sick from drinking pome juice. Back in the US I don't drink that much pome juice but the very few time I had it didn't feel sick (just an observation).

Just one more thing to add, spoke to my father, and he confirmed me that when he was eating/drinking pomes from his backyard (no Pesticides) he felt the same sickness when he drunk a full glass or more. So it might be linked to the first fact which needs be confirmed.

Another update: here is a link where a study of the effect of fresh pome juice on type 2 diabetes shows that it increases the beta cells activity. Beta cells from the Pancreas is responsible of making the insulin which regulates the blood sugar level, which means it decreases the blood sugar level only if your body things it's higher than it's supposed to be. So this hypothesis doesn't not prove nor explain the sickness feeling linked to the pome juice....

Any thoughts?? Anyone, anything lol

Happens to me as well. Can’t give you the scientific reason behind it, but I can tell you it’s not because its contaminated. Happens with red grape juice also… why? Idk. Maybe because of the acid or naturally occurring sugars? While it’s uncomfortable, I don’t think it’s dangerous. Better to drink it slowly. Sip on it like wine.

I have vomited every time I've drunk pomegranate juice, so I don't drink it at all anymore. I can't even think about it without feeling queasy.
