Hide the Female Ministers

The Huffington Post recently ran a story about an Israeli scandal of a different size. Apparently the oasis of democracy and the guardian of freedom in the Middle East has a problem with women in power.

Reports revealed the disappearing of two female ministers serving in the new Israeli Cabinet led by Benjamin Netanyahu. Members of the new "Screw the Palestinians" Cabinet were taking a portrait picture to celebrate the formation of a new government as well as the death of the peace process.

Apparently, the newspapers geared toward ultra-Orthodox Jewish folks photoshopped the cabinet photo in order to take the two women out of the picture. The two ministers who have mysteriously disappeared from the photo are Limor Livnat, the Minister of Culture and Sports and Sofa Landver, the Minister of Absorbtion, proving yet again that the State of Israel fails in its attempts to reflect any culture other than one dominated by the rule of the "good ol' boys." To their edited Ministers' credit, Ms. Livnat was a good sport about the whole ordeal and Ms. Landver didn't have a problem with not being absorbed.

According to the editors at those Ultra-Orthodox newspapers, it's immodest to print pictures of women. Radical Muslims now feel vindicated at last, by none other than Ultra-Orthodox Jews.

The daily Yated Neeman digitally changed the photo, moving two male ministers into the places formerly occupied by the women.
The weekly Shaa Tova simply blacked the women out, in a photo reprinted Friday by the mainstream daily Maariv.

Since this blog likes to stick it to the crazies, here are two links with a picture of the disappeared Israeli female ministers.
